3 Days to Go
Posted at Thursday, June 28, 2007
It's been moderately busy. Cheri had a great idea to create our own wedding favours as our personal gift to our guests. It took a hell lot of time and effort but it was certainly worth it in the end. At least it's all completed now. We've got most of the details tied down. Three more days to go - I'm sure there'll be a couple more surprises popping up along the way. Gotta take them as they come...

On a side note, we're going to Taiwan next week for our honeymoon. Five days four nights. It'll be a great getaway and a good start to our marriage life. :)

And yeah, we've booked our Honda Civic Hybrid. Initially opted for the off-peak scheme but decided not to in the end. We've got the COE - now we just have to wait for it to be delivered sometime at the end of August. Oh well, good things are worth waiting for!

Escape

Lots of things have been happening the past two weeks. We've almost settled our guest list. The An Chuan ceremony was performed on 2nd June. The Guo Da Li ceremony was carried out on 10th June. We decided against having an edible wedding cake. We're starting to tie down a lot of loose ends for our wedding. I went to the SMU Matriculation on Monday. Our car battery went flat on Monday. And I finally found myself a new job.

Well one thing at a time.

Our guest list is almost finalised now. We managed to pare it down by about 20%. We should have about 400 odd guests now. Final figures will be decided this weekend.

The An Chuan and Guo Da Li ceremony went a lot easier than I expected. Mostly cos of my helpful relatives who really went out of their way to get the necessary items for me. And it also helped greatly that both our parents were not particular about the customs. That being said, I'm definitely glad it's over.

We went down to a bakery about two weeks ago to enquire about the wedding cake. In the end, the cost turned out to be much higher than expected. At $70/kg, we needed about 20kg to provide a small 1.5cm chunk for everyone. We decided that it probably made a lot more sense to go for the traditional wedding favours. Cheri's sourcing around for some unique ones now.

We were distributing the Guo Da Li cakes on Monday when our car battery went dead. Managed to jump start it with the aid of Cheri's brother and cousin as well as the kind assistance of a passerby car. We once agreed to help someone jump start his car. Now it's our turn to receive assistance. Indeed, what goes around comes around. Anyway, we're looking to change our car soon. Given my new job location as well as Cheri's likely new job location, it'll be likely that we'll be going for an off-peak cark. Honda Civic Hybrid. What a dream come true...

The SMU Masters of IT course that I'm taking has just 25 students. 2 genius students from the undergraduate course who'll be completing their degree and masters at the same time. 2 ladies out of 25. About 6 Indians - that's a good ratio compared to the NUS MBA course. Three older guys probably in their late 30s or early 40s. A Temasek Poly lecturer. A software developer from SCS. The IT manager of California Fitness. A project manager from Citibank. All in all, it was an interesting mesh of people. Can't quite see myself fitting in though. Well, I'm just going to while my two years away somehow...

And I just signed on the dotted line today. It's an internal network engineer role at Symantec. A contract job but the job scope is exactly what I want. Certainly much more challenging than what I have now. It's a bloody dilemna. I just went for an interview with Barclays Capital yesterday - that would have been my dream job. But Symantec made its offer yesterday as well. I couldn't delay it any further so in the end I decided to take it up. Afterall, the chances for landing the Barcap job was pretty slim. Haiz... Guess I'll have to wait for another two years.

So July is gonna be an hectic month. Ideally, we'll have our dream wedding. Cheri will start in her new job. I'll start in my new job. We'll get our new car. Oh.. and Ethan's brother will be born too!!!
